Goals of scouting

The main goal of the scout movement is to support the upbringing and development of children, teenagers and young people of all genders in such a way that those who receive a “scouting upbringing” become independent and self-sufficient, while also being active and responsible members of society. Members of society who take part in improving the world we live in, our natural and cultural environment and our community, both close to home and internationally.

In this way the scout movement has created an educational role for itself, one it has done its utmost to fulfil for over a hundred years all around the world. The scout movement works with the same values in almost every country on the globe and is the largest youth movement in the world. It fulfils this educational role by applying the scout method, which makes the scouts themselves the central figures on their journey towards becoming the independent, self-reliant people who are able to support others while also being part of a whole.

An important part of the scout method is what it offers each individual scout: certain personal and social values drawn from the scout law, which become almost rules to live by for scouts the world over.
